DoOnGo Technologies, Inc., the industry leader in over-the-air (OTA) mobile device software management, and LG Electronics (CEO: S. S. Kim, Korea Stock Exchange: 06657.KS) Friday announced that LG Electronics, one of the world's largest mobile device manufacturers, will deploy DeltaUpgrade(TM) as the first OTA solution commercialized on the China Unicom CDMA network. LG has been working together with DoOnGo and China Unicom to certify the technology by successfully implementing an end-to-end OTA deployment solution in the Radio Institution of Telecommunications Transmission (RITT) CDMA lab and China Unicom CDMA live network. The rigorous certification process enables LG Electronics to become the first handset vendor to provide their customers with the industry's first CDMA network-based OTA software management and upgrade solution available, accelerating time-to-market for new products and services and increasing customer satisfaction and retention.
San Jose, Calif, United States, May 31, 2004 (Business
Wire India)--"LG has always been at the forefront of technology, constantly
looking for innovative ways to improve our products and solutions, thus
improving the experience for our customers," said Dr. Hee-Bong Park, Research
Fellow, Development Department 2, CDMA Handset Laboratory, Telecommunication
Equipment & Handset Company, LG Electronics, Inc. "With handsets becoming more
sophisticated, we realize the challenges involved in sending bug fixes and
feature upgrades over the air. Working with DoOnGo will allow us to fix problems
and offer feature upgrades to our customers quickly and cost-effectively, all
while continuing to offer the same high level of customer service that we are
known for."
"In China and around the world, wireless carriers and mobile device
manufacturers are experiencing the same cost issues associated with repairing
software bugs, providing customer service, and distributing new software
features and content," said Dr. Luosheng Peng, chairman, CEO and co-founder of
DoOnGo Technologies. "As one of the most innovative companies in the
telecommunications industry, LG is leading the way in providing their customers
with the industry's most proven and effective end-to-end OTA software management
and upgrade solution."
The China Unicom commercial launch of DeltaUpgrade on LG handsets is scheduled
for the second half of 2004. DoOnGo is the first company to power OTA-capable
phones on public wireless networks and the company's software management
platform is used in more than 30 million handsets throughout Japan, China,
Europe and U.S. markets. DoOnGo recently signed licensing agreements with NEC,
Panasonic and Sharp, three of the largest handset manufacturers in Japan.
Through its relationships with these companies, DoOnGo has helped bring the
first commercialized OTA-capable phones to market for NTT DoCoMo.
In Japan, DoOnGo's DeltaUpgrade solution was used in the world's first example
of an OTA repair service for mobile phones. NTT DoCoMo announced on March 9,
2004 that it had identified a software bug in its NEC-manufactured FOMA N900i
handsets and a second software bug in the same handsets on April 26, 2004. Using
software from DoOnGo, already embedded on the NEC phones, NTT DoCoMo was able to
download a patch to fix a "reboot" bug in 160,000 phones and another bug in
470,000 phones, respectively, in a matter of minutes. By updating these phones
seamlessly and quickly, sales and service for the N900i handsets were not
affected, saving the company valuable time and money. NTT DoCoMo did not have to
launch a potentially costly and complicated recall to fix the problem.
By delivering the first software infrastructure that increases the speed of OTA
software downloads and optimizes device memory management, DoOnGo empowers
carriers and mobile device manufacturers to deliver breakthrough wireless
services that drive higher revenue. DoOnGo enables wireless carriers and device
manufacturers to accelerate time-to-market for new products and services,
increase customer satisfaction and retention, and reduce operational costs. In
addition to DeltaUpgrade, DoOnGo's Mobile Intelligence product suite also
consists of DeltaRewrite(TM), the world's most efficient point-of-sale and
portal rewrite software.
