(PRWEB) May 20, 2004 -- Wealden House’s policy of supporting local and national artists has taken an interesting new turn with Dominic Roberts’ exhibition entitled, ‘Behind the Scenes’. As guests at the Private View on Saturday discovered, it offers a rare glimpse of what goes on behind the scenes of many popular TV shows.

Dominic Roberts, currently designing for Holby City, said, "I hope people will enjoy seeing the storyboards and set designs which are an aspect of TV production not normally seen and an insight into how these shows are made."

Some of the most exciting sequences from top soaps and TV programmes can be seen in storyboard form at Wealden House over the next four weeks: A chase from ‘The Bill’, a fire in ‘Bad Girls’, Mark’s motorbike accident in ‘Eastenders’ and an historic soap sequence which every visitor has a chance to win: Grant Mitchell’s last appearance in ‘Eastenders’!

Fans of such shows will find the exhibition fascinating as will anyone interested in working in this field.

Entrance is free and the exhibition runs at until Friday, June 11th. Apart from the great opportunity to win the Grant Mitchell car chase storyboard, there will be a chance to meet Dominic at a free talk he will be giving in the exhibition room at Wealden House on Sunday May 23rd at 4pm.

Entitled, "Designing for Television: An informal discussion with a working professional", Dominic’s talk will cover The Role of the Designer, Techniques of Design for Television, The purpose and use of storyboards and Pursuing a career in TV Design.

He hopes that the talk will be of help to those thinking of embarking upon a career in TV design.

About the artist: Dominic Roberts is a Set Designer working on popular televisions shows like ‘EastEnders’, ‘The Bill’ and ‘Holby City’.

Born in Malawi in 1969, he lived in the Gambia and Holland before settling with his mother and little sister in Forest Row aged 8. He attended Michael Hall School then Greenfields.

After graduating with a B.A. Hons in Theatre Design from Wimbledon School of Art, he worked on several films and theatre shows before taking an M.A. in Design for Film & Television at the Royal College of Art. Since then he worked his way up through the television design department with involvement in ‘True Blue’, ‘Family Money’ and ‘Great Expectations’ among others.

For the last two years he has been designing for the top soaps as well as producing storyboards for some of the more complex sequences. Storyboarding is another area where he has worked very broadly most recently ‘Bad Girls’ and the soon-to-be-released film, ‘Elvis O’Presley’.

The exhibition is open from 9.30am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday (other times by appointment) and admission is free.

Attached images are: Dominic Roberts at the opening of the exhibition next to the Eastenders storyboard (Grant's last appearance) that he is giving away to the winner of the free prize draw; and storyboards from 'Eastenders' and 'Footballers Wives' that avid fans will immediately recognise.
