Yepic.com Launches Web 2 Marketplace for Bloggers

Posted on Friday, November 10, 2006 @ 10:20:48 EST by xtv

Marketing Management Networking PR New Web 2.0 platform for bloggers integrates collaborative rich text, video, and audio authoring with e-commerce and social networking for the ideal content marketplace

Cedar Hills, UT, USA, November 10, 2006 -- Yepic.com announced the public beta launch of its patent-pending Web 2.0 content marketplace that enables bloggers and other users to buy and sell premium user-generated content.

"Millions of bloggers worldwide create content that meets or exceeds the standards of print and video publications we happily pay for every day," said Corey Davis, co- founder of Yepic. "Only a few of them generate enough traffic to earn significant money from advertising revenues. Many writers have loyal but small audiences that would be happy to pay for deeper treatments of the blog's primary subject. We've created Yepic to give writers a new way to monetize their user bases."

Within minutes users can upload their digital assets to Yepic and categorize, tag, price and publish them in Yepic's marketplace. Writers can use Yepic's authoring tools that fully support individual and collaborative WYSIWIG editing and embedded images, video and audio. Once published, users can create links from their blogs to their Yepic article summaries and start making as much as 75 percent of the article price each time an article sells. Yepic provides consumers with a reader and library right on the website, so they can enjoy content the moment it is purchased.

"Collaborative authoring typically requires authors to relinquish control of the article to a larger group," said Yepic co-founder Richard Tripp. "With Yepic's new collaboration platform authors can benefit from collaborator input without losing article ownership or control over the article's direction."

Yepic's offering targets the sixty-four percent of 12 million bloggers in America who blog to share practical skills, knowledge and experience (Pew Internet September 2006 study) with writers worldwide. "Most blog entries just skim the surface of what the writer knows," said Davis. "Yepic gives them an incentive to produce more valuable and in-depth content for their readers to buy."

Yepic is not intended to replace or compete with blogs, nor is it meant to discourage free blogging. Instead, Yepic encourages writers to create and sell "premium" content on their blogs, in addition to the content currently showcased for free.

"Michael Arrington's TechCrunch has won our trust with informative and quickly consumable write-ups on new software companies and offerings. If Michael were to sell an in-depth report on the next big Web 2.0 trends, we would buy it immediately," said Tripp. "Others feel the same way about their favorite blogs. Until now writers have lacked a platform optimized for selling and distributing premium content to their audiences."

In addition to bloggers, Yepic invites other subject matter experts such as gamers, technologists, professors, students, freelance writers, working professionals and hobbyists to sell their premium content on Yepic.

To facilitate the creation and selling of premium content, Yepic's platform integrates several proven Web 2.0 trends and technologies — such as collaborative authoring, demand-driven content, author and article ranking, and copyright controls.

"These technologies and trends have been the most effective antibodies to the cheap content clogging up the web today," said Davis. "Collaboration on Wikipedia has created new standards in quality; Yahoo Answers has brought people an order of magnitude closer to what they've been looking for in search engines; rating systems have proven effective at establishing trustworthiness. But nothing will identify and refine premium content like a true marketplace that incorporates all of these features and more. With Yepic, consumers will be able to quickly identify and access the best information in any given category."

Yepic authors always maintain copyright on their content. Yepic has a "report abuse" link on the top of every page and will promptly remove any copyrighted material upon notification.

Registered users receive a personalized digital storefront (yepic.com/username) for sharing their bio, credentials, photos and links to their articles. Yepic encourages writers to market their content by sending out links to their digital storefront.
