XVD Introduces the NewsHound Go Anywhere

Posted on Wednesday, July 26, 2006 @ 09:41:47 EDT by xtv

Cable TV Satellite Dish IPTV Streaming Battery-powered, HD/SD encoder and DVB-T/COFDM wireless link in a 12-pound backpack system with up to 3 miles range.

San Jose, CA, USA, July 26, 2006 -- XVD Corporation, the pioneer of XVD™ digital media compression -- the most advanced real-time video compression technology -- has introduced the NewsHound(SM) Lightweight Backpack, an advanced technology system that includes a battery-powered Encoder and DVB-T/COFDM Wireless Transmitter System for HD and SD Digital News Gathering (DENG) and other remote camera operations.

Introduced at NAB 2006, with a version already in use by Japan Broadcasting Corporation (NHK) for its “@Human” hit reality television show, the XVD NewsHound enables news crews to venture up to 3 miles from a DENG truck or other receiver site and stream encoded, real-time 1080i, 720p, 480i (NTSC) or 576i (PAL) content captured by any High-Definition or Standard-Definition television camera. The NewsHound features an HD-SDI input, and both Ethernet and ASI outputs.

Solves the breaking news “can’t get there” problem.

Weighing only 12 pounds including Encoder, Transmitter/Antenna, and Rapid-Recharge Battery, the XVD NewsHound makes the “go anywhere” news gathering concept an immediate practical reality, greatly expanding the remote news gathering capability and range for DENG crews. Whether on foot, bicycle, scooter, taxi, watercraft, or aircraft, a single operator can now reach breaking news previously unreachable by large news trucks. The system also provides a capability to record up to 1.5 hours of HD or 6 hours of SD and playback as needed to the DVB-T/COFDM receiver site. The NewsHound’s ergonomic design counterbalances camera weight, and greatly improves operator comfort even after hours of use.

Helping to make trend-setting “reality TV” a hit.

NHK’s popular “@Human” live infotainment program has become a hit in Japan and uses a range of IT and digital video technologies, including a version of the XVD NewsHound, to enable viewers, celebrities and guests to submit content and live “reports” from remote locations, using consumer-grade DV cameras and public networks, including wireless LANs.

The “@Human Backpack” uses the advanced technology XVD-TX100 encoder; SD content is encoded real-time into XVD format at 700-800kbps, and the unit’s Ethernet (IP) output passes encoded data to its wireless LAN transmitter.
