Hastings, MN, USA, December 22, 2005 -- Syfter is an innovative new application for Mac OSX Tiger that brings MP3 playlists, websites and both audio and video podcasts together in one interface to allow sorting, browsing and batch downloading to iTunes of free legal content.
"I like to think of it as either channel surfing for independent music and video or maybe an iTunes Music Store-type interface for the indie media web," Ryan said, attempting to describe the new product. "I have been waiting for a long time for somebody to make it simple and enjoyable to comb through all the free media available all over the web. I mean, there are literally hundreds of thousands of independent bands, radio shows, songs, videos and the like. So much media is good, but also bad because it is nearly impossible to get to the 'good stuff'. It's a mess. The web is, I think, a horrible interface for wading through all of it. You can't avoid the stuff you've already seen, tag the things you're interested in, monitor new content on disparate sites... it's a nightmare. I care about independent media and I think this has hampered it's success. Since nobody seemed to be stepping into the void to fix this problem for me, I figured I would go ahead and do it myself."
The early reactions to Syfter have been encouraging, with one reviewer calling the concept 'brilliant' and brisk downloads from the website at http://www.syfter.com. A second beta release and a final 1.0 release are both scheduled to take place before the end of January.
"I'd love to see a world where anybody with a great idea and the talent to do something about it, whether they are making music or radio or films, can find their audience.", Ryan says, "I'd love to see a world where our consumer choices are dictated by what we really care about and we support the artists we enjoy. Syfter is hopefully a step in the right direction towards helping make that a reality."
Syfter is freely redistributable shareware. Personal licenses can be purchased for $25.
