(PRWEB) May 28, 2004 -- As part of our commitment to developing new scripts and in celebration of Gay Pride Month, Theatre Babylon is presenting a staged reading of "In The Family Way" by local playwright Jessa WhiteWolf. "In the Family Way" is a look at a 21st Century family and the trials and tribulations they go through trying to stay together. Maryn and Joan are partners who've been together for quite some time. More than anything, Maryn wants to have a child with Joan. Joan, a pre-operative transsexual, has no desire to father a child with Maryn. When Maryn does become pregnant but miscarries, Joan examines her own life and priorities, including whether or not to go through with the sexual reassignment surgery.
Writer/director Jessa WhiteWolf is from Philadelphia, where she developed new work with Avalanche Theater Company. Her play "Bert & Jessie," developed with Avalanche, was published in the gay and lesbian one-act play anthology "Tough Acts to Follow" and has been included in the Chicago Public Library's recommended reading list for lesbian drama. A recent addition to the Seattle theater community, she wrote and directed "The Best for You," which was produced in the 2001 Seattle Fringe Festival and received an honorable mention for the Jane Chambers Playwrighting Award.
Featuring the talents of: Si Issler as Maryn and Cory Nealy as Joan, along with Alex Samuels and Roxanne Skelly.
