Vancouver, BC, Canada, September 6, 2006 -- Belcarra Technologies, a leading developer of USB software and device driver solutions, today announced the release of their USBOTG solution for Freescale Semiconductor’s Mobile Extreme Convergence MXC300-30 platform.
Together, Belcarra’s USBOTG and Freescale’s MXC300-30 platform provide for accelerated time to market and lowered development risk. With Belcarra’s software kit, developers using the MXC300-30 platform can select,
implement, test and easily deploy the features they require while maintaining OTG compatibility, regardless of whether the product is designed solely as a USB device, as a device + host, or as a fully OTG capable smart device.
Belcarra’s solution reduces the complexity of using the immense and often underutilized abilities of the mobile USB On-The-Go interface. USB is more than a high-speed serial port, but substantial effort is required to understand and expose its capabilities. USB On-The-Go extends
USB’s original asymmetric host-device technology to encompass today’s smart mobile devices to exchange data with each other directly, in mobile field situations, when a desktop host is not available. USB-On-The-Go allows a single interface connector to be configured as either host or device under software control while retaining the features of high data transfer speed, sophisticated power conservation, reliability and security.
“Belcarra’s USBOTG adds a key technology to the MXC300-30 platform and its
family of processors,” notes Jose Corleto, cellular systems architecture manager for Freescale. ” Allowing today’s multi-capability cellphones to seamlessly interact not only with the owner’s PC, but with other sophisticated consumer devices, and OTG is advancing from a leading-edge feature to a core necessity of mobile/portable devices, providing a combination of flexibility, speed and low power not available from other modes of device-to-device communication.”
Bruce Balden, President of Belcarra, notes
“Belcarra’s OTG solutions have withstood field deployment in a variety of situations, and allow the mini AB USB connector port to serve many purposes for the same product, depending on user requirements, preference and cir*****stance, especially connecting to the standard B or mini AB of another device, thus greatly increasing the flexibility of any device.” “The addition of USBOTG support for Freescale’s MXC300-30 further reinforces Belcarra’s position as the leading provider of USB solutions for embedded systems,”
said Stuart Lynne, Belcarra’s CTO and chief systems architect.
